Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. Cheap Nike Air Max Shoes Wholesale . This week, they discuss sports off-day, the MLB All-Star game, Canadas field lacrosse team and Huston Streets comments upon being traded. Bruce Arthur, Toronto Star My thumb is up to Wednesday of this past week. Now, you probably read and heard a lot of sympathetically depressed moaning about how it was the slowest sports day of the year - no baseball, no hockey, no basketball, no football, and nothing to entertain those in search of sports except... Well, Major League Soccer, the Tour de France, and the ESPYs, featuring Drake. Thats hardly nothing, the semi-vacancy of the ESPYs aside, but you know what? Good. We could use some time with less sports. The days are packed with sports. Christmas day is basically a basketball tournament now. We could use some time to breathe, take a walk, reconnect with family, learn to make a bookshelf. Sports are fun, no question. But how can we miss them when they wont go away? Steve Simmons, Toronto Sun My thumb is down to major league baseball, the Minnesota Twins and broadcasters of the All-Star game for failing to appropriately recognize the passing of Tony Gwynn just one month ago. Its not like Gwynn was just another player. He was a 15-time All-Star, perhaps the most beloved figure in a game with not enough beloved figures, and yet somehow there was no tribute to Gwynn throughout the three hour Derek Jeter infomercial that we endured. And I have nothing but regard for Derek Jeter, who has had a storied career; but there should have been something for Gwynn. For the fans. For baseball. A moment of silence. Some words of tribute. Something. At least Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles had it right. He wrote in marker on his baseball cap the initials TG with the number 19. He had the sense of moment baseball didnt have. Gary Lawless, TSN Radio My thumb is up to Canadas national mens field lacrosse team for winning the world championship last night. Canada defeated the U.S., handing the Americans just their third loss in tournament history dating back to 1967. All three of those U.S. losses have come to Canada and all three in championship games, 1978, 2006 and now 2014. Lacrosse is our national sport but its box lacrosse most Canadians play, not field. In fact, Canada has never lost a box lacrosse game at the worlds. Winning the field championship doesnt qualify as a shock but more of a nice surprise. Congrats to Team Canada, who just so happened to be one of the youngest teams weve ever sent to the worlds, and will be a very serious threat to repeat in 2018. Dave Hodge, TSN My thumb is up to the refreshing comments of relief pitcher/closer Huston Street as he departed the bottom-feeding San Diego Padres for the playoff-bound Los Angeles Angels. There would be lots to say about the horrible state of the Padres franchise, but street said this; "I believe in the ownership--they want to win--theyre not satisfied with the status quo. I blame the players for what has happened here." Well, even though theres plenty of blame to go around and it does extend to the front office and to ownership - the Padres field a lineup that is not of big-league quality - Street is quite right, as a player, to let others find fault with others and to say that, of all the reasons teams lose, the biggest reason is always that players perform badly. Cheap Air Max Online Australia .Cameron sustained his third concussion in three seasons last week on a hit by Oakland safety Brandion Ross, who was fined $22,050 by the NFL for the helmet-to-helmet blow. Nike Air Max Sale Australia . - Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors will coach the Western Conference in the All-Star Game on Feb. http://www.cheapaustraliaairmax.com/ . The two-time former Formula One champion downplayed his third-place finish three weeks ago in China and said progress is going slow for Ferrari as it tries to make up ground on Mercedes. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of their best road trip to Tampa Bay in years. Mark Buehrle allowed four hits over 8 2-3 innings, Jose Bautista homered twice, and the Blue Jays beat the Rays 3-0 on Wednesday night. With a victory in Thursday nights game, Toronto would stop a streak of 20 consecutive winless road series against the Rays. The Blue Jays, who have won two of three against the Rays to start a four-game set, havent won a series at Tampa Bay since April 2007. Of the 20 series, the Blue Jays have lost 19 and split one. "Obviously, it hasnt been a good place for this team," Buehrle said. "Hopefully come out and take this series tomorrow and get off to an even better start." Buehrle (1-0) struck out 11 and walked one. "It was a tremendous game for him," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "A great effort, I dont know how else to describe it." It was just the second career double-digit strikeout games in 430 major league starts for Buehrle. The other was a 12-strikeout game on April 16, 2005, against Seattle, while with the Chicago White Sox. "That ball was running, ducking, and darting," Gibbons said. Sergio Santos entered after Ben Zobrist had a two-out single off Buehrle in the ninth and walked Evan Longoria. Brett Cecil then struck out pinch-hitter Matt Joyce for his first save. Bautista put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0 on his first homer of the season, a solo shot off Matt Moore (0-1) in the fourth. Dioner Navarro made it 2-0 later in the inning with an RBI single. Toronto went up 3-0 on Bautistas second homer, a towering solo drive to left off Josh Lueke during the seventh. Buy Nike Air Max Australia. It was the sluggers 22nd multihomer game. "For the most part their offence was centred around one guy. He can do that kind of stuff," Rays manager Joe Maddon. Moore gave up two runs, six hits and three walks in 5 2-3 innings. The Blue Jays had runners on first and second with two outs in the first when Longoria got a forceout at third after leaping to catch Navarros grounder that went airborne after hitting the base. Toronto third baseman Brett Lawrie saved a run in the fifth when he made a leaping catch on Sean Rodriguezs liner with a runner on a second. "Our defence was amazing," Buehrle said. "If they dont make some of those plays, Im not out there probably past the sixth inning. It was a perfect storm. Everything worked out." Notes: Tampa Bay RHP Chris Archer and Blue Jays RHP Brandon Morrow are Thursdays scheduled starters. Archer and the Rays agreed to a $25.5 million, six-year deal on Wednesday. The contract includes club options for 2020 and 2021 that could raise the value to $43.75 million. ... Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (mild left hamstring inflammation) is getting treatment and feeling better. He hopes to return in a couple weeks. ... Toronto closer Casey Janssen, on the 15-day disabled list due to a strain in his left abdominal area and lower back, threw in the outfield. ... Rays OF David DeJesus (bruised right foot) was out of the lineup for the second straight game and is day to day. ... Blue Jays LHP J.A. Happ (back tightness) had a bullpen session. ... Toronto agreed to a minor league contract with INF Juan Francisco.
